We close tonight at 9!

Just a few more hours to get your order in for the week, before we close at 9 tonight!

Yes, curbside service will continue Tuesday at pickup :-)

To answer many questions about this – you are more than welcome to place as many orders per week as you’d like! And one check is absolutely fine to combine payment for as many orders as you placed that week.

Any questions about your total amount due Tuesday, please feel free to email me at miamicountylocallygrown@gmail.com concerning that or any other issue :-)

And Food Pantry donations are accepted ANY Tuesday!

THANK YOU!! Enjoy this glorious weather!!

King's Chicken Restocked!!

We now have many favorite products from King’s Poultry Farm back in stock, with more to come!!

Boneless Skinless Breasts

Chicken Drums, Thighs and Wings

Apple Chicken Brats and Cheddar Chicken Brats

And even Whole Broilers!

They’ve ramped up production to try and meet the ever-increasing demand, and are working so hard to keep us in supply of their many favorite cuts.

We’ve always been amazed by this multi-generational family farm that truly does it all – raise their own chickens and turkeys, and handle the processing and packaging for both their own and almost every small poultry producer you could find in our area – even from all over Ohio and the surrounding states!

We’re fortunate to have King’s in our own backyard when others drive from Indiana and Pennsylvania to have the King family process their home-raised chickens, especially when they can offer Certified Organic processing and labeling with their own on-site inspector!

Isn’t it wonderful to know and support your local farmer? :-)

Or email me if more convenient :-). But let me know by this Saturday night when we close at 9!!

Thanks for a wonderful birthday!

I love working with my husband and children – after ten years Lee just knows how I think, and can simplify my life just by understanding all the madness in my methods – never so evident as when he and our five children are my Market volunteers.

I couldn’t have asked for a nicer birthday – spending time with my family, taking delicious, quality food to smiling folks who truly appreciate what we’re trying to do, and it doesn’t even feel like winter anymore (for the moment)!

And here I thought I was turning 37, and come to find out, I’m only 36! Whoa! Who knew they’d just start to run together til you didn’t even know how old you were!? What a birthday surprise! Maybe life has been more full than I thought ;-)

So it may have felt as if we packed up half the house and the entire pantry to occupy the kids for the last nine hours, and Lee may still have to milk and do chores while I get kids to bed, and we may have been thinking how nice it’d have been to be in the garden or the fields today, but we looked at each other on the way home and agreed – what a very good day :-)

Thank you so much for being an integral part of it!!

Somebody's Mother, and Three Winners

I had heard my grandmother recite her very favorite poem countless times, yet I had never owned it in print – until we stumbled upon in it one of the Amish readers my children adore… just one of the treasures we’ve found at The Flour Barrel in Gettysburg.

There’s nothing more fitting to share on Mother’s Day. The power of kindness – real, wonderful, and needed. I wish you all a Blessed and truly Happy Mother’s Day as we congratulate our three Bouquet winners…

Sandy Ehrlich
Stefanie Kuechler
Amy Underwood

The woman was old and ragged and gray,
And bent with the chill of the winter’s day.
She stood at the crossing and waited long,
Alone, uncared for, amid the throng,
Of human beings who passed her by,
Not heeding the glance of her anxious eye.

Down the street with laughter and shout,
Glad in the freedom of “school let out,”
Came the boys like a flock of sheep,
Hailing the snow piled white and deep.

Past the woman so old and gray,
Hastened the children on their way;
None offered a helping hand to her,
so meek, so timid, afraid to stir,
Lest in the din of traffic, the cars so fleet,
Should crowd her down in the slippery street.

At last came one of the merry troop –
The happiest lad of all the group.
He paused beside her and whispered low,
“I’ll help you across, if you wish to go.”

He guided the trembling feet along,
Glad that his own were firm and strong.
Then back again to his friends he went,
His young heart happy, and well content.
“She’s somebody’s mother, boys, you know,
Although she’s aged and poor and slow;

“And I hope some fellow will lend a hand
To help my mother, you understand
If ever she’s poor and old and gray,
When her own dear boy is far away.”

And “somebody’s mother” bowed low her head
In her home that night, and the prayer she said
Was, “God be kind to the noble boy
Who is somebody’s son and strength and joy.”

We close tonight at 9!!

Just 2 hours to get those last orders in for the week :-)

Thank you to all our long-time customers for continuing to show us your incredible support, and we’re delighted with all the new customers who are taking a chance on trying out our little local Market as we navigate all the changes this crazy world can throw at us!

In the midst of so much uncertainty it feels fantastic to be surrounded by wonderful people – we’ll continue to work as hard as we can to serve you with the same positivity and graciousness you always show us :-)

Happy early Mother’s Day to all our Moms, Mothers, Grandmas, Sisters, Aunts, Cousins, Friends, and Nurturers!!

P.S. Who’ll be the lucky few to snatch up the fresh asparagus which just became available from Pumpkin Patch? ;-)

A gem shared by an awesome customer...

I’ll admit I’m completely out of touch, so it’s possible I’m the very last person to have read this poem in our county, country, whathaveyou…

But I couldn’t resist sharing this after one of our incredible customers sent it to me today – and yes, I’ll be the first to admit, I’m completely biased! ;-)

— "They ran to the groceries, they filled up their carts,

They emptied the Tops and Price Chopper and Walmart,
They panicked and fought and then panicked some more,
Then they rushed to their homes and they locked all the doors.

The food will be gone! The milk, eggs, and cheese!
The yogurt! The apples! The green beans and peas!
The stores have run out, now what will we do?
There’ll be starving and looting and nothing to do!

Then they paused, and they listened a moment or two.

And they did hear a sound, rising over the fear,
It started out far, then began to grow near.

But this sound wasn’t sad, nor was it new,
The farms were still doing what farms always do.
The food was still coming, though they’d emptied the shelves,
The farms kept it coming, though they struggled themselves,

Though the cities had forgotten from where their food came,
The farms made them food every day, just the same.
Through weather and critics and markets that fall,
The farms kept on farming in spite of it all.

They farmed without thank you’s.
They farmed without praise.
They farmed on the hottest and coldest of days.

They’d bought all the food, yet the next day came more,
And the people thought of something they hadn’t before.

Maybe food, they thought, doesn’t come from a store.

Maybe farmers, perhaps, mean a little bit more."

The only thing I’d argue with is that we DO farm with thank you’s, because you’re the greatest group of customers ever – and we love you.

Watch the Buehler's on Channel 7 tonight!!

When I see Phil Buehler’s name pop up on the phone, I can always be sure he’ll have me smiling in short order – and I wasn’t disappointed this afternoon, when he called to let me know Channel 7 went out to his farm this morning and interviewed his son Matt for tonight’s 5:30 news!! Excited to check it out – so good for one of our long-time farming families!!

Two more days to order!!

I hope everyone is able to find something to make them happy and enjoy the sunshine today in some way, however small… for me it’s been blooming apple trees and lilacs that smell heavenly, and remembering to picket the calves out of reach of the clothesline! Whew!

Make sure you enter the drawing to win one of THREE unique Mother’s Day Bouquets, made of wooden flowers – no wilting, no mess, just lovely!!

And don’t forget we’re closing this week on SATURDAY night – so if you’ve an order to get in, remember to place it by 9pm Saturday :-)

Be sure to check out the return of 6635 StudeBaker’s Napoletana Pizza Crusts!! Plus King’s Poultry has restocked several items as they work tirelessly to keep up with demand!

Many of the vendors are working thru price increases and supply challenges for everything from packaging and ingredients to seed and feed, but where there’s a will, there’s a way!

It’s never been more important for us to source as many of our ingredients and own groceries as we can from each other, and who isn’t excited with the (hopeful) approach of good growing weather that’ll bring on summer’s bounty!

Just the fact that we’ve had so much sunshine this Spring makes all the difference in the world to me, and my disposition ;-) Here’s hoping everyone is able to enjoy those glorious rays, whether on a walk, in the backyard, or thru the window doing dishes!

Happy Thursday!
