Garlic Festival tomorrow!!

I hope your plans for a restful Sunday include a trip over to Bellefontaine for the annual Garlic Harvest Celebration at Jandy’s Farm, that begins at 1pm!

Jan and Andy are the epitome of ecological farmers, and their festival each summer showcases the crop for which they are best known – garlic! They grow and sell TWELVE varieties of softneck, hardneck, and rocamboles – everything from personal fave Asian Tempest (not for the faint of tastebuds!) to long-lasting Siberian and mild, kid-friendly Silver White. You’ll find plenty of unusual varieties such as local cultivar Peach Mountain – and be sure to pick up their handy cheat sheet, Growing Great Garlic!

Not only will Jan and Andy have their garlic for sale, but they’re joined by other local food and craft vendors for a unique event, complete with a folksy string band sure to have you tapping your toes! The garlic-inspired burgers and popcorn are always a hit ?

The celebration also has an intimate feel, as you’ll meander through their farm’s lovely vegetable and flower gardens… always well-maintained, always flourishing, always inspiring! We took one look at the way they made a tunnel with bent cattle panels that allowed their sour gherkins plenty of room to grow on the neat trellis, and we just had to replicate it at home – we’ve used that “tunnel trellis” for pole beans, cucumbers, and peas with much success!

Visit their listing on www.localharvest.org under Jandy’s Farm, their Facebook page at Jandy’s Farm, email janandy1988@yahoo.com or call (937)468-2853… 3624 Township Road 136, Bellefontaine OH. Just please remember, this is their home! They simply ask – NO PETS PLEASE, respect the garden paths, and supervise your children!

And there’s still plenty of time to place your market order for the week before we close Sunday at 8pm!

Bair Trax Dairy will be on hand during customer pick-up Tuesday evening with yummy samples and info on their Certified Organic farm!

And DON’T FORGET to “order” and enter the drawing for our market Gift Baskets under the MCLG category – Good Luck to everyone who has entered thus far!?
