JM Gardens is a first generation farm that has been growing pumpkins and gourds since 2010. They started growing vegetables in 1989 when the farm was purchased by Jon & Holly DeFord and have been expanding ever since. The farm consists of 66 acres with 61 of it being used to grow corn & soybeans and the remaining acreage used for the (4) gardens and homestead area.
They use equipment from the late 40’s and early 50’s to till, plant and harvest. The majority of the equipment has been in the family since the 60’s, which has been passed down from Jon’s parents.
The inspiration for vegetable growing came from Jon’s father who was an idea man. He grew vegetables, had an apple orchard, raised laying hens, sold strawberries, farmed 20 acres of grain and worked as a draftsman in town.
Currently JM Gardens is a hobby operation run by Jon, Holly and their son Jack. They started JM Gardens for the pure enjoyment of growing vegetables and practicing the farming techniques of the 40’s.
