Market closes Tomorrow at 9!

Several new plants on the Market, whether pollinator favorites like Bee Balm or showy perennials like stunning Irises!

J & S Buehler Family Farm now has Chuck Roasts available again!

Brette is Back in town with her beloved bagels and customer fave Cinnamon Walnut or Raisin bread!

And lots of Chicken specials to check out, all before 9pm Saturday!

Recyclables, Food Pantry, Office Supplies

I’ve had several repeat inquiries, so I’ll answer them for the good of all!

Yes we encourage recycling – if you bring back in vendors’ egg cartons, flower pots, glass jars (even including the bands and lids), I’ll make sure they get back to the vendors the following week!

We do accept ANY donations for the First Place Food Pantry any Tuesday during regular Market hours – perishable and non-perishable food, toiletry and hygiene items, baby food and supplies – they told me, anything I’d purchase for my own family in the way of supplies or food!

And you kind souls who asked if there was anything in particular we needed – pens, 8.5×11 paper, highlighters, tape – basic office supplies are always on my wish list :-)

Thanks for your continued interest in our little Local Market! Our farmers, bakers, growers, and families appreciate your support!

Fresh Herbs, Returning Vendors

6635 StudeBaker “History in the Baking” will return soon, with her Organic sourdough breads and pastas, as will Brette from the Grumpy Goat Experiment with her fresh breads and bagels (for now, Matt holds down the fort with their produce, herbs and jams)!

Becky’s Buckeye Naturals will be on an extended vacation after this week, so check out all her shower fizzies, soaps, and shampoo bars while there’s still time!

And this is the final week Simple Living Farm will have Fresh Herbs to offer on the Market as they gear up for the start of their CSA program!

The St. Paris Farmer’s Market has already opened, on Friday afternoons! And many other area farmer’s markets including Piqua, Sidney, and Troy will return soon as well!

Spring is such an exciting time of year, and we’re fortunate to have such a great variety of fresh local food available!

Davidson Returns! King's Special! And Somebody's Mother

Davidson Family Growers is Back on the Market this evening, and we have a new 20% off Special from Kings Poultry – Ground Chicken!!

And I realize I shared my grandmother’s favorite poem last year, yet I cannot resist presenting it again. We had never owned it in print – until we stumbled upon in it one of the readers my children adore… just one of the treasures we’ve found at The Flour Barrel in Gettysburg.

There’s nothing more fitting to share in honor of Mother’s Day. The power of kindness – real, wonderful, and needed. I hope all of the mothers and women who have a gift for mothering all had a Blessed and truly Happy Mother’s Day.

The woman was old and ragged and gray,
And bent with the chill of the winter’s day.
She stood at the crossing and waited long,
Alone, uncared for, amid the throng,
Of human beings who passed her by,
Not heeding the glance of her anxious eye.

Down the street with laughter and shout,
Glad in the freedom of “school let out,”
Came the boys like a flock of sheep,
Hailing the snow piled white and deep.

Past the woman so old and gray,
Hastened the children on their way;
None offered a helping hand to her,
so meek, so timid, afraid to stir,
Lest in the din of traffic, the cars so fleet,
Should crowd her down in the slippery street.

At last came one of the merry troop –
The happiest lad of all the group.
He paused beside her and whispered low,
“I’ll help you across, if you wish to go.”

He guided the trembling feet along,
Glad that his own were firm and strong.
Then back again to his friends he went,
His young heart happy, and well content.
“She’s somebody’s mother, boys, you know,
Although she’s aged and poor and slow;

“And I hope some fellow will lend a hand
To help my mother, you understand
If ever she’s poor and old and gray,
When her own dear boy is far away.”

And “somebody’s mother” bowed low her head
In her home that night, and the prayer she said
Was, “God be kind to the noble boy
Who is somebody’s son and strength and joy.”
